    Attention Band Directors: The NMEA Board is accepting nominations for the chair positions for both the All State Concert and Jazz Bands. Interested persons or nominations should be submitted to Dan Barthel by Friday, May 14. For a list of job responsibilities, please refer to the NMEA Policies and Procedures Manual which can be found under the 'Constitution and By-Laws' tab on the top of this page.

    Through active listening, video viewing, and evaluation of band and orchestra selections of varying difficulty, become more informed with selecting quality music for teaching.
    "Rehearsing and Teaching—Not an Either/or Decision"
    In this interactive session, develop more comprehensive approaches for preparing your groups for performances with understanding and to teach about the music.
    "Teaching Musical Inflection While Enhancing Student Independence" with Peter Simpson, University of Kentucky, Lexington
    Learn strategies to help students successfully inflect ideas implied by musical notation. Explore emotional content and basic elements of "musical rhetoric." Sing, intone, and clap examples that illustrate teaching strategies.

    Design a sequential and cyclic plan to teach a comprehensive music curriculum based on literature selection designed specifically for you and your program.

    NACWPI Academy sessions and performances.

    The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band is a spectacular opportunity for rising high school seniors! The 2011 band performs this January in San Antonio. Student marching musicians should submit audition materials by April 15.

    Airfare, rooms, food, rehearsal attire, instruments, uniform ... all provided at no cost to the student!

    Don't let your students miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Encourage your rising seniors to submit an application and upload their audition clips by April 15.

    GRANT DEADLINE EXTENDED
    We are extending the deadline for Student Assistance Grants for the NMEA State Conference 2010. This grant is meant to assist students who do not have their travel expenses covered by their school/district. The postmark deadline is now FRIDAY, MARCH 5TH.     UPDATE: Mariachi Scholarship Information The twenty (20) $100 Wenger Scholarships for the Summer MariachiWorkshop being held the week of June 28, 2010, at the National Center for Music Education in Reston, VA, will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

     To receive your scholarship, you must register with VanderCookCollege BY PHONE ONLY. That number is 312-225-6288. When you call,the receptionist can tell you if you were among the first 20 to register.

     IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

    REGARDING 2011 AND 2012 All STATE CONFERENCES  

     

    Since our September meeting the board received additional information from UNR regarding the possibility of moving our conference to their campus in 2011.  After reviewing the additional information, the board voted to move the 2011 conference to the     

     University of Nevada, Reno.  The dates for the conference will be

     March 30 – April 2, 2011.

     Our 2012 conference will be on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, April 18-21, 2012.
